Day 15: Sunday Scenic Route..

I'm not sure how many of you were fortunate enough to have the good old "Sunday drive" be a part of your childhood.. Sunday, often seen as the day of rest and family, was always a special memory in my childhood. Filled with big lunches, lots of food (and of course dessert too!), tea parties and Scrabble games; they most often also always included the famous Sunday drive...

The Sunday drive became such a part of our vocabulary, that when my dad or one of the elders was driving a bit too slow and we would tell them to speed up, or when they took a longer, different route rather than the normal one, they would often quip "we're on a Sunday drive!" even if it was most likely a week day!

Living along the coast in a small town call East London, South Africa often meant that these drives would also go around different areas and little coastal town in and outside of East London... and were always so scenic and beautiful!

I had a Sunday scenic route experience after my YOLO day that I shared on Day 6 of my Advent calendar journey (If you missed it - read it here Day 6: YOLO)! After taking my nieces Pia and Payal out for our ice-cream and waffle date, we missioned back to their home which happened to be in Friday afternoon peak traffic. Being not fully familiar with roads in Cape Town, I put this into the Mrs GPS Google Maps and was delighted when she took us to weird, wonderful and beautiful surburbia and other scenic areas that all of us had never seen or been to before! We saw the most lovely houses and beautiful gardens and trees and flowers, and of course the deliciousness that is Cape Town in her Summertime glory!

It was such a special moment... with my nieces playing their jams for me and us all experiencing something new and awesome and meaningful all at the same time! So today, I remind you to something different - take that scenic route. Even if it's just going out to buy your Sunday papers or going to a meal with some friends or a beach walk or whatever you're getting up to sometime today or during the course of the week - take that scenic route. Whether on your own or with family or friends.. do something different! Feed your soul and all its senses - just by doing something so simple!

Happy Sunday everyone :o) Have an awesome day, and let me know what you did for your Sunday Scenic Route day!

Till tomorrow.

For the love of wisdom always, Poonam
